RCS heads into showdown with Voyager Academy on four-game winning streak

Kelly Snow | Courier TImes The Roxboro Community School boys’ basketball took care of business in its last two games to set up a huge showdown Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs knocked off Raleigh Charter 61-55 Saturday at home and hammered Woods Charter 67-35 Monday on the road to improve their record to 16-5 on the season.

RCS will face Voyager Academy tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the final game of a tripleheader. The JV Bulldogs will face Voyager at 4:30 p.m., followed by a girls’ game at 6 p.m.

RCS and Voyager are currently tied atop the North Central Athletic Conference standings with matching 8-1 records. The Bulldogs won the first meeting between these rivals, 75-66 on Jan. 7 in Durham.

Christian Ingram poured in 29 points to lead the Bulldogs to the victory. The Vikings could take a huge step towards locking up the regular season title with a win tonight after sweeping second place Kestral Heights. Kestral handed the Bulldogs their only conference loss this season.

RCS has won its last four games since that loss, including Saturday’s hard-fought home win against Raleigh Charter.

The Phoenix led 25-23 at the half before the Bulldogs took command with a strong thirdquarter. Terrence Hawley led four double-figure scorers with 20 points. Darius McGhee poured in 12 points, while Ingram finished with 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Mickey Drumwright finished with 10 points, while DeShawn McGhee added five. Bryan Henderson wrapped up the scoring for the Bulldogs with three points.
