On March 5, RCS lost by two points to Riverside High School in Williamston after leading by 10 points for most of the game.

RCS has never before won a first-round playoff game. Going that far was a highlight of the season, according to freshman guard Kate Crews, but losing after playing such a strong game was “definitely” the low point.

“When we walked out on the court, it was an insane feeling to know that we were making history,” said senior forward Megan Watkins.

“I absolutely loved this season!” Watkins continued, “I have never been a part of such a tight knit group of girls! Everyone was always so supportive of others. I learned more and improved tremendously.”

Crews said she was proud of the work her nine teammates did this season, especially defeating arch-rival Voyager Academy twice – by over 20 points per game.

The 2014-15 basketball season began on Oct. 20, with a scrimmage.

On Oct. 29, the Bulldogs defeated the North Carolina School of Science and Math by “a large margin,” Crews said. That seemed to set the pace for the rest of the season.

“There were a lot of games where we led by over 40 points, so it was a running clock,” Crews said.

Brian Cousin coaches the Lady Bulldogs and David Kent serves as assistant coach.
