Bing GregoryBing GregoryJACKSONVILLE — Melvin “Bing” Gregory, 75, of Jacksonville, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family.  
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Flynn officiating.  Burial, with Masonic graveside rites, will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Bing was born in Roxboro, on Feb. 20, 1940.  
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Thomas Gregory and Margaret “Polly” Woodall Gregory.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eileen Rose Gregory of the home; three daughters, Sharon Autry (Andy), Kathy Hopkins  (Mark) and Pam Ladley (Mike), all of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Russell Autry, Claire Autry, Kyle Autry (Brittny), Ayrn Ladley and Kira Ladley; and two sisters, Betsy Carr of Virgilina, Virginia and Margaret Marshall of Roxboro.
Bing joined the U.S. Navy shortly after high school where he met and married his “bride,” Eileen.  After concluding his Naval service, he became a North Carolina Highway Patrolman in 1963, where he served until his retirement in 1981.  Following his retirement from the Patrol, he was Director of Safety, Security and Communications at Onslow Memorial Hospital until 2002 when he retired.
He was actively involved in the Masonic Lodge where he served as master of Lafayette Lodge in 1981 and was appointed District Deputy Grand master of the 9th District in 1993.
  The family will receive friends Friday, prior to the service, from 12 to 1 at the church and at other times, at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
The family would like to give special thanks to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, especially Liz and Grace.  Also, special thanks to the staff of Onslow Memorial Hospital’s 3rd floor, 5th floor, ICU, ER and Drs’ Hunter and Stahl for their incredible care.
