Cutest pet contest raises money for shelter animals

Photo by Stephanie DeVillier Photo by Stephanie DeVillier The Roxboro Community School National FFA Organization wanted to do a community service project for Valentine’s Day and the month of February, so members held a Cutest Pet Contest. Thirty-one pets, including dogs, cats, and guinea pigs, were entered. RCS students voted for the cutest pet by placing a penny in the container featuring their choice. First place went to Darla the Dog, owned by Colby and Lucas Rountree. Abby Weaver’s dog, Ace, was second. The total raised for Person County Animal Services was $174, and FFA plans to deliver the check soon. Michael Holbrook (far right) and Sara Powell took the lead in the project, and worked each day during lunch to collect votes.
