Cast of Seussical Jr. Cast of Seussical Jr. The Person County Recreation, Arts and Parks Department, Person County Arts Council and Piedmont Community College has announced that Roxboro Little Theater’s youth production of Seussical Jr. will be performed on the stage at the Kirby Theater on Friday, Aug. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6 and 7 at 3 p.m.

This show is part of the 2016-2017 Performing Arts Series season at the Kirby Cultural Arts Complex.

See all of the favorite Dr. Seuss characters, from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus.

The Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton, facing ridicule and danger, must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. The powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

The hunters capture Horton. The hunters capture Horton. The Seussical production has 82 talented youth from Roxboro and surrounding counties who have worked for the past several weeks to bring to life a story based on some of Dr. Seuss’ famous books — all set to music.

The performers have been challenged with fun choreography from Leslie Anderson and have been working harmony with music director, Janna Kisner.

Director Heidi Foltz said, “It has been wonderful to see things start to come together. I believe all who come to see the performance will be amazed at how much the cast has learned in the short seven weeks they’ve had to rehearse. If you can, try to name all the stories that are woven together in this play — there are about 15 of them.”

He believes in the value and dignity of others, in working to preserve the fragile sweetness of the natural world, and he believes that peace is the ultimate ideal, among nations and in every heart. He also believes in the pure power of the imagination. You will find all these serious concerns at the heart of Seussical.” The Youth Summer Theater productions are opportunities for the Arts Council to provide educational and fun experiences to the youth in the community.

Seussical Jr. has definitely made my summer very busy, but it was more than worth it,” said Aivry Coleman, who plays Mayzie.
