On Dec. 7, the Roxboro Community School (RCS) theater and dance classes performed in the annual Holiday Program.

The theater program performed the Christmas comedies Santa’s Cookie Problem and Regift along with The Little Match Girl, a play that “[touched our hearts] as a reminder that there are still those who don’t get to experience all of the material joys of Christmas,” said Christine Morgan, theater teacher.

The dance classes performed to popular Christmas songs such as Happy Christmas (War is Over) and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

Students in the high school theater arts class auditioned to become a part of the cast for these performances and all high school dance classes participated in the program.

Both groups had been preparing for the program since October.

The dance program was directed by RCS dance instructor, Teresa Coleman.

Two of the dances performed were student-choreographed.

RCS senior Jacob Whitlow served as the acting and technical director for the theater program.

The theater performance acts as Whitlow’s senior project and was rehearsed five hours per week during theater class.

This is the first year the program was showcased on the new RCS stage.

According to Morgan, the stage “has taken a great deal of stress out of the experience.”

RCS junior and dance student Madison Satterfield said that “a lot of hard work [was] put into this show and I think the outcome really shows that.”
