Rocket track season ends at regionals

The track season at Person High School came to an end Saturday at the 4-A Midwest Regional at Southwest Guilford High School in Greensboro.

The Rockets sent four competitors to the regionals, but none qualified for this week’s state championship meet.

Senior Tyrique Wright came the closest.

Wright finished fifth in the triple jump with a best effort of 42-feet, 10-3/4 inches. He was just a quarter-of-an-inch short of earning a top-four finish and a trip to the state finals.

He also came home sixth in the long jump with a best effort of 21-feet, 4-1/2 inches. Kennan Solomon qualified in the discus but scratched on all three attempts.

Senior Mahogany Mc- Ghee finished eighth in the long jump with a best effort of 16-feet, 5-inches, while Jaleh Stephens was 14th in the 100-meters with a time of 13.06.
