Katherine Selma Gelling Coleman


GREENSBORO — Katherine Selma Gelling Coleman, 90, of Greensboro died Friday, Sept. 8, 2017.  
She was born in Monroe County, Mississippi to the late John Carl Gelling and Moree Lewis Gelling.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter R. Vernon and Stanton Coleman.  
Mrs. Coleman attended Mississippi State College for Women and later was an office manager at Huff and Davis Oil Company.  She was a member of Long Memorial United Methodist Church for 30 years and later Calvary Baptist Church.  Mrs. Coleman was a member of Eastern Star.
Surviving are three children, Walter Ray Vernon Jr. (Mary Lou Borden) of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, John C. Vernon (Sue Martin) of Clemmons, and Martin L. Vernon (Elizabeth Hester) of Raleigh; two sisters, Helen G. Pearce, of Hattisburg, Mississippi and Alice G. Johnson of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at White Stone with the Rev. Charles Martin officiating. Visitation will be held following the service.
