PHS clubs plan to ‘Rock the Year’

Person High School (PHS) has a variety of clubs that cater to various groups of students.

Recently, Person County hosted its annual Relay for Life event and PHS’s Key Club participated.

Junior Jayce McIver, president of the Key Club, said, “Key Club had a tent with a variety of different decorations and we promoted our games more, so we could be an asset at Relay for Life.”

Key Club will also continue the tradition of helping with Reading Buddies, a program in which members read to local preschool and elementary school children.

Homecoming and the annual Pep Rally are on Oct. 13 and several PHS clubs will participate in the Homecoming parade.

Student Council members picked the theme of “Homecoming around the World” in order to promote cultural diversity.

Prentice Hargrove, Student Council advisor, said, “We want students to feel like no matter what ethnic group you belong to or how long you’ve been at Person High, this will always be home.”

The pep rally will incorporate an Olympics theme, including music and games.

The Student Council plans to host a Fall Festival.

Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA), have set up a calendar of events for the coming year.

Future Farmers of America plans to compete in regional competitions including the annual Truck and Tractor Pull, Prepared Public Speaking, and Tool Identification.
