Arthur Wiley Winstead

Wiley WinsteadArthur Wiley WinsteadGreensboro — Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Arthur Wiley Winstead, 73, passed away at Moses Cone Hospital on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 3 p.m. at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Morris and the Rev. Rob Miller officiating. Family visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 2 p.m.
A private interment was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Art was born in Roxboro to the late Ray K. Winstead Sr. and Nannie Harris Winstead.
He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a passionate Tar Heels basketball fan his entire life.
He worked as a financial planner with Merrill Lynch and Davenport and Company, devoting 36 years of service to his clients.
Through the 1980s, he was deeply committed to the initiation, design, and fundraising for the Bryan Park Soccer Complex.
As a long-time deacon at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, he devoted many years of his life in service to the Lord.
The last seven years were some of the happiest years of his life as he spent every second he could hugging, chasing, playing, and laughing with his three grandchildren.
Art raised two sons, strong in faith, strong in themselves, strong in love for their family, their wives, the children, and his enduring legacy will be deeply but delicately woven into the decades to come.
Through all of these events spanning decades, he was most devoted to his wife. Never did his love for her waver, or fade, but only grew and expanded, embracing the 56 years they had each other.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lynn Gentry Winstead; sons, Jeff Winstead and wife Abigail, and Brian Winstead and wife Lauren; three grandchildren, Rachel, Jacob and Nathan Winstead; brother-in-law, Berry Gentry; and sister-in-law Lois Winstead; three nieces and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, Music Ministry, 4800 West Friendly Avenue Greensboro, NC 27410, in memory of Arthur Wiley Winstead.
Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel is serving the Winstead family.
