James Alfred Burch Sr.


James Alfred Burch, Sr., 85, of Roxboro, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017 at his home.  
He was born in Person County to the late Owen Lester Burch and Onie Beaver Burch.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Dudley Hawkins Burch; an infant daughter, Kathryn Burch; and two brothers, Owen Burch and Frankie Burch.  
Mr. Burch was an Army veteran of the Korean War.  He loved to fish and went deep sea fishing until he was 80 years old.  Mr. Burch also loved farming and to draw and paint.  
Surviving are his six children, James Alfred Burch Jr. (Teresa) of Durham, Wanda Wilson of Timberlake, Joy Burch of Roxboro, Cynthia Crabtree (Gary), of Cedar Grove, Paige Sawyer-Brown of Hurdle Mills and Jayne Loftis (Jason) of Roxboro; four sisters, Alma Allen, Frances Carol Burch Ewing, Linda Springer, and Billie Faye Burch; 10 grandchildren, James Alfred Burch III, Jennifer Kramer, Donald Wilson Jr., Robert Wilson, Melissa Padgett, Victoria Crabtree, Lilly Brown, Jackson Loftis, Jasper Loftis, and Jett Loftis; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 at the Davis Family Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. M. David Chambers officiating.
Pallbearers will be James Alfred Burch III, Jackson Burch Loftis, Robert Wilson, Donald Wilson, James Loftis, and Jeffrey Holt. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence “Pop” Walker, Gardner Whitfield, and Gene Engen.
