Bulldogs split games in their Thanksgiving tournament

The Roxboro Community School boys’ basketball team split games in its Thanksgiving tournament this weekend.

The Bulldogs lost to Rocky Mount Prep 81-47 Friday before rebounding with a 58-40 victory against a South Australian travel team Saturday. RCS (5-4) jumps back into North Central Athletic Conference play tonight when it travels to Oxford Prep. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

Rocky Mount Prep took control of Friday’s game in the second quarter when it outscored RCS 21-7 and took a 40-21 lead into halftime. The Jaguars held a lead of at least 20 points for most of the second half.

Te’Shon Clayton led the Bulldogs with 16 points, while Dylan Jones and J.R. Paylor scored 10 points each.

Mack Warren came off the bench and chipped in five points, while Nassir Stokes finished with four. Bryson Pleasant added three points and Jalen Bailey rounded out the scoring with a free throw.

The Bulldogs got off to a fast start against South Australia and never looked back. They raced out to a 22-10 lead after the first quarter and put the game away in the third by outscoring the visitors by 11. RCS led 51-29 to start the fourth quarter.

Clayton paced the Bulldogs with 18 points, while Jones poured in nine of his 14 in the first quarter.

J.R. Paylor chipped in 11 points, while Stokes finished with five.

Bailey added four points, while Pleasant pitched in three. Thomas Humphries finished with two, while J.J. Cash rounded out the scoring with a free throw.
