Melinda Jane Long Royall

Pawleys Island, S.C.  — Devoted wife, mother and friend, lover of gardening and children, Melinda Jane Long Royall passed away peacefully on Friday morning Dec. 1, 2017.
Melinda, known usually as Linda, was born on March 4, 1938 in a log cabin in Roxboro. She was the daughter of Henry David Long and Hazel Price Long Harvey.
Linda was married for 57 years to Theodore Stuart Royall Jr. (Ted) who survives. She is also survived by her four children and six grandchildren; mother of Kelly Royall Ryder (Christopher), Jennifer Jane Royall (Rick Alexander) Kristy Royall Whitehead and Theodore Stuart Royall III (Heather); grandmother of Price Ryder, Kathryn Johnson (Matthew Johnson), Sarah Whitehead, Jeremiah Royall, Alexandra Royall and Sydney Royall. Her sister Ann Long Lewis (Ralph) of Roxboro, and sister-in-law Margaret Smith of Morehead City, also survive.
She graduated from Roxboro High School in 1956 and Watts School of Nursing in 1959. Her devotion to her faith shined brightly. The simple pleasures of spending time with her children and their friends, serving others and volunteering and serving the community brought joy to all.
Services were held Monday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. at Belin United Methodist Church, in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to The Traveling School for Girls “Melinda Jane Long Royall Scholarship.”
