Man charged in Monday night shooting

French French A Roxboro man was ar- rested Tuesday morning for attempted murder and burglary following a Monday night incident.

Jeron Gavin French, 31, of 106 Brookstone Lane, Roxboro, is facing one count of felony attempted first-degree murder and one count of first-degree burglary and is being confined to Person County Jail without bond.

According to the incident report, Person County Sheriff ’s Deputy Aaron Lappin responded to a gunshot incident at 1159 Semora Road about 10 p.m. Monday night. While en route he was told that a 54-yearold male had been shot. The victim was later identified as Antonio Delontay Ford. He was found leaning up against a freezer with no shirt on and a towel wrapped against stomach. He was conscious and alert but was having difficulty breathing. The bullet had pierced his back and exited his stomach. Ford told Lappin that Ron French had shot him.

Ford also told Lappin the two men had been arguing over a dog.

After Ford was transported to the hospital by EMS, Sgt. Mark Massey and Investigator Justin Zimmerman arrived and secured the crime scene, which included the dining room, where a shell casing was found near the entrance to the kitchen.

Ford is in serious but stable condition at Duke University Medical Center.
