James Reginald Clayton

James “Jimmy” Reginald Clayton, 84, of 419 Ellen Street, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018.  Born in Person County, Mr. Clayton was the son of the late Jim Robert and Jenny Frances Long Clayton. 

Mr. Clayton served in the US Army infantry.  He retired from Tultex and volunteered in the local nursing homes.  He was a member of Grace/Ca-Vel United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Methodist Men. Mr. Clayton was also involved with the prison ministry.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Clayton, his sister, Janelle Clark, and his niece, Cherri Ridgeway.

Mr. Clayton is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Clayton; three nephews, Michael Hayes, Sammy Clayton and wife Karen, of Timberlake, and Tim Clayton and wife Velvet, of Semora; two nieces, Tammy Tuck and husband Bradley, of Timberlake and Kim Slaughter and husband Carl, of Semora; and his nephew-in-law, Robert Ridgeway.

Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Grace/Ca-Vel United Methodist Church by the Pastor Darcy Knight.  Burial will follow in Burchwood Cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Kenneth Hicks, Ricky Hargis, Tony Cole, Mike Walker, Ronnie Maloney, and Andy Riley.  Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Hodges, Johnny Walker, Ralph Loftis and Don Davis.

Flowers are acceptable, or memorials may be made to Grace/Ca-Vel United Methodist Church, 313 Church St., Roxboro, NC, 27573.
