SUBMITTED Students from Person High School’s Future Farmers of America club recently attended Envirothon at Elon University. The team of four students visited several different classes on wildlife, aquatics, forestry, soil science, and current environmental issues. After rotating through the classes, the team took a test on each of the areas of study.

“It was a fun event and I learned a lot from the wildlife, aquatics, forestry, soil, and current environmental issues classes,” junior team member Grayson Cothran said. “My teammates worked well together completing the tests.”

“Envirothon is a Fantastic Competitive Event in which students can explore Wildlife, Soils, Forestry, Aquatics and Current Environmental Issues and meet students from other schools with similar interests,” said agricultural teacher David Jones.

The Area III Envirothon is sponsored by the Area Soil and Water Conservation district offices of the piedmont. Students can advance to the state competition in Burlington and then to nationals.

Students compete in teams of four or five students. This year’s team from Person consisted of Ethan Jones, Delaine Phelps, Brittany Farman, and Cothran.
