Roxboro Community School (RCS) collected books to send to South Elementary School last October. AP Academy students Bricen Jones and Karson McKenzie helped organize this event.

AP Academy is a program where students take a series of advanced classes, possibly earning college credit, and get to choose some classes, such as electives. Each year, AP Academy students must perform 10 hours of community service.

Starting the program their freshman year, Jones and McKenzie came up with ideas for volunteer work. After the hurricane in Texas last year, they wanted to collect books for our community.

They ended up collecting 488 total books and donated them to South Elementary.

“We’re happy that we can help be a part of something that helps children further their education,” said McKenzie.
