Raymond Malcus Oakley

HURDLE MILLS — Raymond Malcus Oakley, age 86, of 830 Hawkins Loop Road, Hurdle Mills, passed away peacefully at his home on April 26, 2018.

Mr. Oakley was born January 14, 1932 in Person County, son of the late Robie Algie Oakley and Annie Mae Clayton Oakley and was husband of 65 years to Frances Howerton Oakley, who survives.  He retired from farming in 1975 and then from Eaton Corporation as a machine operator after 24 years of service.  He was a member of Five Forks Baptist Church in Cedar Grove.

Surviving in addition to his wife are six children, son, Roger Dale Oakley (Wanda), daughters, June O. Hawkins (Gregg), Faye O. Matherly (Barry), of Hurdle Mills, Kaye Oakley (Joanna), of Bushy Fork, Donna O. Brann (Rick), and Debbie O. Crabtree (Tony), of Rougemont; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Moore, Florence Oakes (Joe), and Dorothy Crute, of Newport News, Virginia; one brother, Ronald Oakley (Kathy), of Timberlake; sister-in-law, Ann Oakley and brother-in-law, Sammy Crute, of Hurdle Mills.  

In addition to his parents, Mr. Oakley was preceded in death by one brother, Charlie “Pete” Oakley and one sister, Emily Ora Crute.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Five Forks Baptist Church with the Pastor Austin Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Brooks and White Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Donald Oakley, Trinity Oakley, Chad Oakley, Greg Oakley, Neil Crabtree, Brandon Hawkins, Tyler Dixon, Ethan Dixon, Jason Matherly, Joey Hawkins, Nathan Matherly, and Kevin Brann.

Flowers are acceptable or memorials contributions may be made to the Home Health and Hospice of Person County, 355 A S. Madison Blvd., Roxboro, NC 27573, Duke Community Hospice Services, 4321 Medical Park Dr., Suite 101, Durham, NC 27704, or Five Forks Baptist Church, 7420 Hwy 86N, Cedar Grove, NC 27231.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregiver, Janelle Shull for all the loving care she gave Dad for the last two years.
