Raymond N. Whitt

HOLLY HILL, FL — Raymond N. Whitt, 94, of Holly Hill, Florida, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018. Born in Roxboro, Ray was the son of Maggie and Hutch Whitt.  Ray has been a resident of the Holly Hill, Florida area since 1958 and owned and operated Ray Whitt’s Used Cars in Holly Hill.  He left school after the sixth grade to help his family after his father’s death working in the tobacco fields and often had the best crop in the County.  He honorably served in the US Navy.  An avid bowler, he took pride in bowling a prefect game at Halifax Lanes.  He had a passion of NASCAR and raced a Volvo in the mini stocks with his friend Ed Brown as his crew chief.  The thing he enjoyed most was his family and talking to people. 

Mr. Whitt married Clytie Yarborough and they had four children, Donna Brustad (Eric), Owen Whitt (Mimi), the late Wanda Brooks (Duck) and Karen Briggs (Mike), affectionately known as his “First Family.”  He later married his current wife of 57 years, Nellie forming his “Second Family” and they had three boys, David Whitt (Wendy), Earl “Buddy” Whitt, Joseph “Rusty” Whitt.  Nellie previously had two daughters, Joann Sikes (Joe) and Jeannie Taylor.  Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, his brother Therbert Whitt, of Key West and his sister Betty Rockwell, of Timberlake.

The family will receive friends 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the Brooks & White Chapel.  Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Herbert Brown.  Burial will follow in Mt. Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donald Brooks, Dallas Brooks, Blue Harris, David Stephenson, Michael Briggs and Dustin Johnson.
