Barbara Blalock Hodges

Barbara Blalock Hodges, died on June 21, 2018. Born in Person County, on October 15, 1942 to Lorena Wolfe Blalock and Otha Vernon Blalock, she was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Dock Ray Hodges.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna Hodges Jackson, Amy Hodges Howe (Randy), and Kristi Hodges Gilliam (John); her grandchildren, Myranda Wilson Meeks (Daniel), Kirby Howe, Dillion Howe, Rachel Gilliam, and Abigail Gilliam; and her great-grandchildren,  Darren Alexander Meeks, and Hannah and Danielle Meeks. In addition, she is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Deborah Blalock; Shirley Wolfe Harrison; and Pauline Wilkens, and brother-in-law, Owen Wilkens.

She was a woman of adventurous spirit and a  lighthearted character. She treasured the water, travelling often to the beach with those she held most dear. She also enjoyed gardening, where she felt she could nurture and care for God’s earth and create beauty. One of her greatest accomplishments included building her house on Hyco Lake with her late husband, where she welcomed all as family for years. There, she lived by example - surrounded by her acceptance and grace; it was a place that all felt welcome. She was proud of her family, who continued to embody her envisionment of love. She advocated serving others through many pathways, promoting the ideals of generosity, compassion, equality, and style - values she felt were central to the joy of living.

Her daughters would like to thank those who’ve shown their continued support during this pressing time. The family will receive visitors from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 24th at Brooks & White Funeral Home, 907 Durham Road, Roxboro. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with a graveside service proceeding.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the youth organization My Life Matters Roxboro, for Tim Bowes’ Support, 80 Darwin Ln., Roxboro, NC.
