Winfred "Wimp" Earl Long

HURDLE MILLS — Winfred "Wimp" Earl Long, 90, of 117 Snipes Road, Hurdle Mills, died Saturday, June 23, 2018. Born in Person County, he was the son of the late Henry Ewing Long and Sally Allen Long. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Long; two brothers: Bernard Long and Daniel Ray Long. He was a member of Five Forks Baptist Church. Mr. Long was a retired mechanic from Long Brother's Garage.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Porterfield Long of the home; one son, Linwood Long and wife, Deborah of Hurdle Mills; two sisters: Nell Whitfield and Doris Winstead, both of Hurdle Mills; five grandchildren: Jessica Stephens (Ryan), Jonathan Long (Hannah), Jenna Long, Joseph Long, Gabrielle Long (Josh); three great-grandchildren: Aubree Shay Long, Braleigh Marie Long, and Alivia Gail Bohanon.

Visitation will be held from 6-7:30 PM Monday, June 25, 2018 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Funeral service will be 2 PM Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Five Forks Baptist Church with the Rev. Austin Brown and the Rev. Jack Lemons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Long, Joseph Long, Josh Bohanon, Ryan Stephens, Wesley Winstead, Steve Winstead, and Danny Long. Honorary pallbearers will be Mickey Clayton and Robert Kerr.

Memorials may be made to Five Forks Baptist Church, Parking Lot Fund, 7500 HWY 86 N, Hillsborough, NC 27278.
