Berry Hill Resort will host Cantaloupe Festival

The 38th Annual Virginia Cantaloupe Festival is coming in late July.

Berry Hill Resort and Conference center will open its lawn to festival goers for the sixth year and a sellout crowd is expected.

The festival will be held 5-10 p.m., Friday, July 27. The band 6th N Main will perform 5-6:30 p.m., and The Tams will perform 7-10 p.m, with tunes excellent for shag dancing.

“Berry Hill is a beautiful location for the festival,” said Virginia Cantaloupe Festival Committee Chairperson Nancy Long. “People really seem to like the space to stretch out and enjoy good music, the shade of those beautiful trees and the overall festival environment we are able to create at Berry Hill,”

The purchase of a $35 ticket includes admission, beverages, music and a southern menu complete with cantaloupes. The cantaloupe and corn are grown in Halifax County by Reese’s Farm, and through a partnership with Haifax County Farm Bureau, will be available during the festival.

Since 1980, many passers by have stopped to enjoy items from Reese’s farm stand on U.S. Route 360 and on Highway 501, Centerville. Locals and travelers look forward to their harvest each year.

Advance tickets for the festival are $35 and may be purchased at the Halifax County Chamber of Commerce, Halifax County South Boston Visitor Center, WAKG, or online at www.valopefest.com.
