Queen Esther Pettiford Fields

DURHAM — Mrs. Queen Esther Pettiford Fields, age 96, of 820 Martin Luther King Parkway, Durham, departed this life Sunday, July 15, 2018 in the Pruitt Health Center - Carolina Point in Durham, NC. She was a native of Person County and a member of Young’s Chapel Baptist Church in Roxboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel and Lula Pettiford Pierce; one sister, Mable Pettiford; and two brothers, Elbert Pierce and Willie  Pierce.

She is survived by special caregiver, friend and cousin, Carolyn Pettiford Ryals (Fred) of Durham; special nephew, Albert Howard (Georgia) of Timberlake; goddaughter, Ann Lawson of Durham; special niece, Christine Fitch of Virginia; god-niece, Lucy Bailey of Durham; special health caregiver, Rosetta Smith; Dionne Whitfield and Shelia Bailey; and other additional relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 12 p.m. at Young’s Chapel Baptist Church, 284 Young’s Chapel Church Road, Roxboro, NC 27574 with the Rev. Robbie Bynum, pastor, officiating and providing the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. with the family present during the last hour from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The body will lie in state in the church for one hour prior to the service.
