Alton Lee Cothran

ROUGEMONT — Alton Lee Cothran, 85, of 1271 Julian Oakley Road, Rougemont, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2018. Born in Person County, he was the son of the late Lee Oscar Cothran and Gypsy Lunsford Cothran. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his four siblings, Edwin Cothran, Nelson Cothran, Goldie Garrett, and Nancy Whitt. Mr. Cothran was a great baseball player. He played for Thomas Store and Mt. Tirzah teams. He was the owner and operator of Hyco lawn care. Mr. Cothran was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. He was an usher of the church and served on the cemetery committee.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ruby Oakley Cothran of the home; four children, Cathy C. Hicks (Todd) of Roxboro, Brad Cothran (Robin) of Roxboro; Trent Cothran (Vicki) of Rougemont, and Timothy Cothran (Jackie) of Rougemont; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018 at the Mt. Harmony Baptist Church and other times at the home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2018 at the Mt. Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joey Whitt, Van Long, Wayne Latta, Ricky Cothran, Roy Whitt, and Curtis Hornbuckle. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Whitt, Andy Wooten, and Jerome Garrett.
