Police arrested a Roxboro man last Wednesday and charged him with 24 child pornography violations.

Miguel Santos Hernandez, 18, of 1713 Wall St., was arrested the day after officers executed a search warrant on his home, where they found three cell phones in a bedroom. One of those phones appeared to contain evidence of child pornography.

Police got a tip about the case from a computer system that tracks the movement and use of child pornography.

Det. P.A. Furstenau contacted the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and a joint investigation between the two agencies led them to Hernandez.

According to arrest warrants, officers found 12 images of children between the ages of 4 and 10 engaged in various sex acts. It’s unclear what kind of images investigators found.

Chief of Police David Hess said there is no evidence that any of the victims in the case are from this area. “That should give you a good indication of where these images were obtained from,” Hess said.

Hernandez is charged with 12 counts of seconddegree exploitation of a minor, which is described in the arrest warrants as the duplication of images. He is also charged with 12 counts of third-degree exploitation of a minor, which is described as the possession of those images. Hess said there is no indication that Hernandez had shared the images with other people. He said more charges could be filed in the case.

The search warrant indicated that investigators believe Hernandez may have another cell phone investigators want to examine.

Hernandez is being held in the Person County jail under $1 million secured bond.

Hess said this sort of crime is a rarity for this area. “I can’t recall another case like this since I’ve been here,” Hess said.
