Larry Hassell Bowes

Larry Hassell Bowes, 77, of 581 McGhee’s Mill Rd., died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018. Born in Person County, Mr. Bowes was the son of the late Linwood and Annie Lee Moore Bowes and husband of the late Brenda Clayton Bowes. Mr. Bowes worked at Person County Farm Bureau from April 1967 to January 2003.

He was county commissioner from December 2004 to December 2008 and he served on various committees including the ABC Board. He was also an auctioneer and avid hunter. Mr. Bowes was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and was a member of the men’s club.

Mr. Bowes is survived by his children and their spouses, Amanda B. and Mike Smith, of Roxboro, Scott H. and Jennifer Bowes, of Clayton and Brian L. and Jenny Bowes, of Hurdle Mills; one sister, Emily Whifield-Ronk, of Cary; six grandchildren, Ethan Smith, Caleb Smith, Natalie Bowes, Emma Bowes, Gracen Bowes and Macee Bowes.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at Oak Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Daniel Pantoja and the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation was held 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove United Methodist Church and at other times at the home.

Pallbearers were Keith Watts, Brent Bogue, Ethan Smith, Caleb Smith, Tim Williams, and the Rev. Herbert Brown.
