Marie Moore Oakley

Marie Moore Oakley, died peacefully on Sept. 5, 2018. She was born on June 4, 1920 to the late Arthur Loyd Moore and Eva Knott Moore. 

Marie attended nursing school in Richmond, Virginia where she earned her LPN certification.  She and her late husband, Charlie R. Oakley founded Oakley’s Machine Shop, Inc. in 1946 where she worked until 2013.  She also worked at Four Acre Industry.  Then, Marie worked at Person Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator until she retired to work full-time in the family business.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband of over 70 years, Charlie Robert Oakley, her parents, Arthur and Eva Moore; one sister, Bessie Lou Day; two brothers, Elvin Moore and Harvey Moore.

Marie is lovingly remembered by her son Arthur Oakley and his children, Jill O. Strickland (Chuck) and Janet O. Clayton (Kevin); her son Charlie Lee “C.L.” Oakley and his wife, Billie and their children John Oakley, Tish Oakley, Sterling McDowell (Amy), Misty Ross (Kenton), Daniel Oakley, and David Oakley; 12 great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Oakley, Caroline S. Carver (Kenneth), Kyndall Oakley, Evan Oakley, Cole Strickland, Kitos Oakley, Mackenzie Clayton, Waverly Davis, Pierce Davis, Merrick Davis, Calder Ross, and Anna Barlowe; many beloved relatives and friends.

The Oakley family sincerely thanks Dr. Hong Yu, Ola McIver, and the staff of Roxboro Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for their dedication to the care of Marie.

A service celebrating her life will be held at the Chapel of Brooks and White Funeral Home in Roxboro on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at 3 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Person Memorial Cemetery. The Dr. M. David Chambers and the Rev. Ed Priestaf will officiate the service. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Brooks and White Funeral Home, 907 Durham Rd., Roxboro, North Carolina, and at other times at the home, located at 206 Webb Street, Roxboro, North Carolina.

Pallbearers will be John Oakley, Sterling McDowell, Daniel Oakley, David Oakley, Evan Oakley, Cole Strickland, and Kitos Oakley.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Chuck Strickland, Kevin Clayton, Kenton Ross, and Kenneth Carver.

The family asks that memorials be made to Long Memorial United Methodist Church Youth, P. O. Box 310, Roxboro, NC  27573.
