Lieutenant Colonel James Myrl Poole

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) James Myrl Poole was one of seven children born to the late James W. and Martha R. Woods Poole on Aug. 21, 1954. He answered his Heavenly call Monday, Sept. 3, 2018 in Destrehan, Louisiana.

At an early age, he joined the Prospect Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he participated in various youth activities and served on the Usher Board. He attended the Person County Schools and was a 1972 graduate of Person Senior High School, and a 1976 graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Greensboro. He was a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

James graduated at the top of his ROTC class at A & T and joined the United States Army in October 1976 as a Second Lieutenant. While serving in the military, he received numerous medals and awards and was a highly decorated Veteran. He retired as a Lt. Col. in Aug., 1999.

James was a loyal and faithful member of Bell Baptist Church, Luling, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Benjamin C. Poole.

Cherishing his memory are his wife, Michele of the home; three children, Jeremy Poole of Lafayette, Louisiana, Antoine Poole of Durham, and Dr. Tiffany Poole Wilson (Lawrence) of Kentucky; four grandchildren; three brothers, John E. Poole (Bertha) of Columbia, South Carolina, Ernest Poole (Glamoree) of Roxboro, and Alexander Poole of Sunrise, Florida; two sisters, Margaret P. Jones (Isaac) and Viola P. Pettiford, both of Roxboro; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church members.

The funeral service will be Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Prospect Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 301 Bethel Hill School Road, Roxboro, NC with the Rev. George Harris, Jr., pastor, officiating and the Rev. Dwight Wilkerson providing the eulogy. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the family present during the last hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of his brother, Ernest Poole, 316 Carrington Lane, Roxboro, NC.

The body will lie in state in the church for one hour prior to the service.
