Bulldog girls pick up first win

The Roxboro Community School girls’ basketball team picked off its first victory of the season, downing Franklin Academy 58-45 Friday at the Dog House.

The Bulldogs improved to 1-3 on the season heading Thursday’s game against Henderson Collegiate.

RCS led throughout and pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Franklin Academy 14-3.

Paige Melton carried the Bulldogs’ offensive attack, finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Mackenzie Oliver chipped in nine points with six boards, while Madison Dunkley flirted with a double-double and finished with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Zoe Russell had nine points with 12 boards, while Georgia Carver chipped in eight points. Jailyn Mattos rounded out the Bulldogs scoring with two points. Emma Bailey poured in 24 points for Franklin Academy, while Livy Delage added 15.

The RCS boys’ basketball team picked up a forfeit victory against Franklin Academy. The Bulldog boys are 2-4 heading into Tuesday’s game at Bishop McGuinness.
