Bowman, Long spur Meredith win

Two Person High grads played key roles in Meredith College’s first home volleyball win of the season on Saturday in Raleigh.

Led by 15 assists each from 2017 Person grad Avery Bowman and Lauren Grodi, the Meredith College volleyball team earned a USA South victory over Methodist University, 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-16), at Weatherspoon Gymnasium.

Early in the first set, the Avenging Angels (10-6, 4-1 USA South) got back-to-back kills from junior Ally Copenhaver to take a 6-2 lead and never looked back. In the second set, Meredith jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead. Meredith would extend their lead to seven, 21-14, after a service ace by 2018 Person High grad Hailey Long.

During the third set, Meredith would build up a quick 11-point lead, 18-7, over the Monarchs (2-11, 1-4 USA South) en route to the sweep.
