County contract with Republic up for amendment

The Person County Board of Commissioners will meet in a regularly scheduled meeting Monday, Sept. 23 at 9 a.m.

In the meeting, the commissioners will hear a proposed amendment to the county’s solid waste contract with Republic Services.

The commissioners will also look to lease two surplus fiber strands.

Previously, the county was set to lease 10 surplus fiber strands at the commissioners’ Aug. 19 meeting but the item was struck from the agenda.

At that time, Chairman David Newell, Sr. said the item was not ready to come before the board. According to the agenda, the strands were to go to the county’s Emergency Communications and Recycling Center.

Commissioners will also present a resolution of appreciation for county retiree Debra Dunn-Wilkins, and make appointments to the Comprehensive Land Use Plan Steering Committee and Animal Advisory Committee.
