Former Person resident to lead Henderson church

Cooke Chapel AME Zion Church in Henderson welcomes its newly appointed pastor, the Rev. Dr. Omega T. Perry.

Perry is a former resident of Timberlake. He was in the United Holy Church of America, Inc. denomination for more than 20 years. Under this denomination, he is the former pastor of Bethel Tabernacle United Holy Church in Durham; Alston Chapel United Holy Church, Pittsboro; the establishmentarian of Tabernacle of Zion Holy Church, Inc., Pittsboro; Praise Tabernacle Holy Church, in Roxboro and the North Carolina Fellowship of Holy Churches, Inc.

In 2012, he converted to the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church denomination and joined St. Mary’s AME Zion Church, Kittrell and shortly after was admitted into the Central North Carolina Annual Conference of the Eastern North Carolina Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.

In 2016, Perry transferred his membership to Cooke Chapel AME Zion Church.

Perry was appointed as Pastor of Bethlehem AME Zion Church, Fuquay-Varina in March 2017, reappointed again in November 2017, and reappointed again in November 2018.

On Sunday, Nov. 10, at the 140th Session of the Central North Carolina Annual Conference of the Eastern North Carolina Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Raleigh, Perry was named pastor of Cooke Chapel AME Zion Church.
