HURDLE MILLS – Frances Howerton Oakley, 83, of 830 Hawkins Loop Road, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 29, 2019. Mrs. Oakley was born Feb. 22, 1936 in Person County. She was the daughter of the late George Howerton and Mary Ida Hubbard Howerton and the wife of 65 years to the late Raymond Malcus Oakley. She was a homemaker and a member of Five Forks Baptist Church in Cedar Grove.
Mrs. Oakley is survived by six children, Roger Dale Oakley (Wanda), June O. Hawkins (Gregg) and Faye O. Matherly (Barry), all of Hurdle Mills, Kaye Oakley (Joanna), of Bushy Fork, Donna O. Brann (Rick), of Roxboro and Debbie O. Crabtree (Tony), of Rougemont; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret McAllister (John); and two brothers, Jimmy Howerton (Linda) and Maurice Howerton (Rita), all of Roxboro.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Oakley was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Howerton and sister-in-law Dorothy Howerton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at Five Forks Baptist Church by the Pastor Hunter Strength and the Pastor Austin Brown. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Donald Oakley, Trinity Oakley, Chad Oakley, Greg Oakley, Neil Crabtree, Brandon Hawkins, Kevin Brann, Tyler Dixon, Ethan Dixon, Jason Matherly and Nathan Matherly.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers, Jannelle Shull, Joann Loftis and Sharon Crabtree for all their loving care they gave Mom for the last few years.
