Howard Wrenn Jones


Howard Wrenn Jones, 91, passed peacefully August 8, 2022 at Person Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.  Howard was born July 17, 1931, to the late George Dewey and Hettie Wrenn Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anna Hester Jones; four children, Connie J. Pixley (Gary), Patsy J. Clayton (Mickey), Tammy J. Stark (Phil Heller) and Dewey E. Jones (Gay); five grandchildren, Alan Moore (Michelle), Joe Pixley (Heather), Beth Dowdy (James), Blake Jones (Anna) and Austin Jones; six great-grandchildren, Grayson Wilkins, Aubrey-Jean Wilkins, Leah Pixley, Gracie Jones, Ross Jones and Collin Pixley.

He was proud to have resided in “Push”, North Carolina his entire life.  Howard, also known as “Bro” to friends and “Bobo” to grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was a farmer until the mid 1980’s. He worked for Eaton Corporation until retirement. He later worked from Boyette Automotive.

He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Flat River Antique Tractor Club. He loved his red tractors and loved to joke with those who drove green. He was on the Board of Directors for the Hurdle Mills Volunteer Fire Department, Board of Directors for the Person County Farm Bureau and a member of the Person County VFW.  He was named Jaycee’s Farmer of the Year. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. David King and the Rev. Dr. M. David Chambers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall prior to the service and at other times at the home, 2940 Cates Mill Rd., Roxboro.

Pallbearers will be Alan Moore, Joey Pixley, Blake Jones, Austin Jones, David Jones, Grayson Wilkins, Berk Jones and Jonathan Webb.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Hurdle Mills Volunteer Fire Department.
