Kirby to host ‘Oklahoma!’ auditions

Auditions for the upcoming Roxboro Little Theater production of “Oklahoma!” will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, and Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Kirby Cultural Arts Complex.

This open-audition call is for ensemble roles ages 5 and up, supporting roles ages 11 and up and principal roles ages 18 and up. Actors of all experience levels are welcome to audition. Those auditioning are asked to come early to fill out paperwork before going on to do cold readings and sing a song (acapella). Though no dance training or experience is required, everyone who is able will participate in an instructional choreographed dance section to perform in small groups.

For those interested, a free dance workshop will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, to help prepare. This workshop is encouraged and is open to ages 11 and up. To register for the dance workshop, contact the Kirby Theater at 336-597-1709.

“Oklahoma!” tells the story of a small Oklahoma town whose residents are fighting over property rights and, among other things, romance. Amid the rivalries brewing between cowboys and farmers, a love triangle ensues between the young cowboy Curly and a hired hand Jud, who both have feelings for the same young woman, Laurey. Throw in drama between Ado Annie, Will Parker and Ali Hakim, and you’ve got a wild, funny and often emotional tangle of relationships.

This production will be directed by Heidi Foltz and will go on stage on the weekend of April 24-26. Additional information about this audition, the dance workshop and this production can be found on the Kirby website at
