Local Scouts take part in Pinewood Derby tradition

The 2019 Cherokee District Pinewood Derby was held May 11 in Reidsville, hosted by Chris Murphy and Pack 320.

Cub Scouts from Rockingham, Caswell and Person counties competed; ranging in age from kindergarten through fifth grade.

The following were winners from Person County:

Overall District Champion

Conner Barwick, Pack 239, Roxboro

Lion Winners

First place - Jacob Trippett, Pack 260

Second place - Hayden Chambers, Pack 223, Timberlake

Third place - Luca Rowe, Pack 701

Wolves winners

First place - Brycen Campbell, Pack 372

Second place - Ryan Sharlow, Pack 223, Timberlake

Third place - Christopher Douma, Pack 239, Roxboro

Webelos winners

First place - Conner Barwick, Pack 239, Roxboro

Second place - Alex Karpenski, Pack 372

Third place - Bill Hall, Pack 320

Arrow of Light winners

First place - Cameron Moore, Pack 540

Second place - Nick Acree, Pack 320

Third place - Noah Brunelle, Pack 223, Timberlake

Prior to the district competition, Scouts held their own local competitions.

Cub Scout Pack 223, chartered by Helena United Methodist Church, held its annual Pinewood Derby April 27. The Cub Scouts built and painted their cars with the assistance of their adult partners.

Wolves (2nd graders) Ryan Sharlow

Bears (3rd graders) Logan Seal

Webelos (4th graders) Noah Nobles

Arrow of Lights (5th graders) Noah Brunelle

Best of Show for Cub Scout Pack 223 went to Vincent Johns.

In the Fun Run for the Boy Scouts, parents and siblings, Boy Scout Aiden Walker took first place for the fastest car.
