Nydriya Marner scored 17 points to lead the Person High School women's basketball team to a key 62-46 victory agaisnt McMichael last night.
With the win, the Lady Rockets (14-7, 8-5) locked up fourth place in the Mid-State 2A/3A Conference, meaning they will host a conference tournament game next Monday.
Person used an 18-5 third quarter to pull away from the visiting Phoenix (11-9, 5-7).
The Lady Rockets received a balanced scoring contribution on the night, as seven different players recorded a point. In addition to Marner's 17, Aaliyah Jones had 13, Alexzia Thompson dropped 11, Madison Dunkley and Karter Hawkins registered six each, Gabby Jones contributed five, while Kayleigh Clarke and Kelcey Mangum each scored two points.
After the game, Marner was honored for reaching the 1,000-point mark in her career, a feat she achieved in the Jan. 10 contest against McMichael. Marner received a basketball from head coach Jay Carmichael, and posed for a picture with her teammates.
