Mary Elizabeth Alexander Dunn, 90, formerly of 11 Old Leasburg Road, Leasburg, died Friday evening, February 7, 2020 at Roxboro Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Dunn was born March 8, 1929 in Wilkes County, daughter of the late Ransom Marcus and Amy Jo Phillips Alexander and was wife of 41 years to the late Bennie Thomas Dunn, Sr. She received her degree in nursing from the Hugh Chatham School of Nursing, was retired from Person Memorial Hospital after 38 years of service and was a member of North Roxboro Baptist Church.
Mrs. Dunn enjoyed reading, traveling (not by plane), the beach and mountains, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are three children, Starr D. Burgess and husband, David of Harmony, Va., Judith Hanes Dunn and husband, Cliff Lowry of Roxboro and Swansboro, Bennie Thomas “Joe” Dunn, Jr. and wife, Karen of Mountain View, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Dunn is preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Barlett Dunn Humphries; three sisters, Lucille Hayes, Frances Ramierz and Billie Jo Wagner; and four brothers, Grady Day, DeWitt Alexander, Howard Alexander, and Homer Alexander.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Chaplin Melissa Fretwell officiating.
