The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has begun its look into a shooting involving an officer from the Roxboro Police Department near the Dollar General at 198 Weeks Drive Friday.
The victim was 45-year-old David Brooks Jr.
A release from Roxboro Police Department Chief David Hess states that officers responded to a report of a man with a gun walking down Old Durham Road.
The release states that shots were fired moments after officers arrived.
Hess told The Courier-Times it is standard practice for such an investigation to be handled by the SBI.
"This is a difficult day for our city," Hess said in a statement. "Please be patient as this process begins. We will release details as they become available to us."
There was a presence of members of both the Roxboro Police Department and Person County Sheriff's Office establishing the crime scene and setting up a perimeter.
Hess indicated that there will be a press briefing later Friday.
