To the editor:
What? You say the impeachment of President Trump is going nowhere?
But the hearings just got started!
They’ve got all these fancy witnesses, and the biggest congressional committee room!
Democrats have been planning Trump’s impeachment since the day he was inaugurated. It was their “cover story” for having lost the 2016 election to a rude amateur with orange hair. Surely it can’t stop now.
Most Dems understand they cannot win the 2020 election against a president whose economy is going gangbusters, with a roaring stock market, more jobs, bigger paychecks, lower taxes, less regulation, better healthcare, more border walls and a military coming home. The solution? Impeachment.
Why bother letting those pesky voters decide who they would prefer?
Since the Mueller investigation failed, the Dems cooked up a plan to use a phone call from Trump to the Ukrainian president as the next scam for impeachment. The far-left wing of the Democrat party finally pushed Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to allow committee hearings.
But all the Democrats can muster is hearsay evidence in a kangaroo courtroom. The main witnesses knew a guy who knew guy who overheard a guy talking on the phone to a Ukraine guy about congratulations on his election.
No demands were made of the Ukrainian president, no quid pro quo, no bribery or treason or high crimes and misdemeanors. Nothing illegal.
So, why will all this political theater come to a screeching halt? Just a few simple observations:
• Nancy Pelosi loves her speaker’s gavel more than life itself. She will do nothing to risk losing it.
• Pelosi’s caucus includes 31 members who won in districts which Trump also won by good margins. If she holds a vote on Articles of Impeachment, she forces all 31 to decide whether to vote to save their seats or to impeach the President. Most will likely want to save their seats, and impeachment fails. Pelosi only loses her gavel if more than 16 Democrat seats are lost in the 2020 election.
• But if Pelosi holds a vote and wins, she hands over control of the narrative to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) for a trial by the Senate. The evidence against Trump must be so strong that 20 Republicans will be moved to switch sides and vote with the Democrats. Not likely.
So, clever ol’ Nancy will soon find a face-saving off-ramp for Rep. Adam Schiff’s (D-Calif.) committee hearings before any vote is held, before any Democrat risks losing a seat, and before any Articles of Impeachment can reach the U.S. Senate where they are guaranteed to die.
But if Nancy plans to retire, who knows what she might do!
