Tresa (Terri) Averette Burruss died of heart disease at home on June 23, 2020. She was born on May 19, 1953 in Roxboro, NC to Betty Blue Milam Averette and James Bassel Averette who both predeceased her. Her dear sister, Vickie Blue Averette, also predeceased Terri. Terri is survived by husband Tucker Burruss and brother Jim Averette as well as by beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, in-laws, and friends who mourn her loss.
Terri was a lover of animals of all types, especially dogs. She lovingly cared for her pets throughout her life. Her current dogs, Cooper and Levi, are grieving her death right along with her human family. No animal could ever be luckier than to have Terri for its human.
Terri worked as a graphic designer in various settings throughout her career. She retired from the News and Observer advertising staff at their headquarters office in Raleigh, NC when her health forced her to do so. She and Tucker moved back to Person County where she lived her last years enjoying the beauty and peace of a rural lifestyle. Terri loved flowers, hummingbirds, her front porch, art, and supporting the underdog in any situation. She found great joy in reconnecting with longtime friends after returning to Roxboro.
A memorial service will be planned after the complications of quarantine have passed. Instead of flowers, please consider a donation in Terri’s memory to any worthy cause, especially those benefiting animals.
