There were bright lights, upbeat music and high fashion with a local flair at the Carolina Estates Friday night as the Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its first ever Galentine’s Day Fashion Show.
The event featured local boutiques and retailers Specialty Designs, Russell’s, Madison Marketplace, Tribbie Dare’s Boutique, Cry Freedom Missions, Footwear Plus and the Exchange. The local merchants showed off their apparel with their local models walking the runway in front of a sold out crowd of women.
Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Samantha Bagbey said the event was a rousing success and was appreciative of the Chamber members who participated.
“We have so many boutiques and retailers and we wanted to show that there’s room for everyone,” Bagbey said. “Everyone can be successful. Having everyone in the same building, coming together, it was great fellowship and it proved that community over competition is the most important. The boutiques and retailers showed that by really coming together and doing this event together. They showed how much they care about our community and each other and the Chamber. We loved having the opportunity to showcase all of them in a way that hasn’t been done before.”
Those in attendance receive a complimentary glass of champagne or mocktail and were able to indulge at the dessert bar filled with goodies from Chamber members Homestead Restaurant, Brookland Eats, Vesuvio’s, La Piazza, Golden Corral, Old Country Club Steakhouse and Hoppers Poppers. Bagbey said that there was such a demand for tickets that the Chamber offered a livestreaming option through a private Facebook group once tickets sold out. She said there were around 165 tickets sold in all.
“Sometimes with change and new things, you’re not always sure how people will react,” Bagbey said. “We really didn’t have any expectation for how it would be received, but we knew our limit and we sold out in two weeks, which was shocking. We sold out so fast, we had to cancel our newspaper ad because by the time it would have ran, we would have been almost out.”
Bagbey hopes that the Galentines Fashion Show will be an annual event.
