Janie Neathery Day, 86, of 366 Dancy Day Rd. Roxboro, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of Jan. 30, 2023. Born in Roxboro, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Thomas Neathery and Mavin Briggs Neathery Henderson. She was a life-long member of Grace United Methodist Church, a devoted choir member, where she knew the words to every song, United Methodist Women, and served on many committees through out her life.Â
Mrs. Day began her career at the Kirby Theater selling tickets and at the concession stand, where she met Atwill. After they married, she began working as an Insurance Agent until she retired with over 50 years of service. She worked at Thompson Allen, Farm Credit, Walker Insurance and Piedmont Insurance. She enjoyed her profession and loved the customers that she served.Â
Mrs. Day is survived by her husband of 67 years, David Atwill Day, two children: Derek Day (Amy) and Janine Day Thomas (Jimmy); four grandchildren: Drake Day (Kaitlyn), Drew Day, David Thomas and Ashley Thomas; sister, Estelle N. Gentry; three step-siblings: Vernon, Faye and Gene. The family would like to thank her caregivers Clara Sehen, Juanita Gray and Tammy Locklear.Â
Visitation was held from Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023 at the Brooks & White Chapel and other times at the home.
A celebration of life was be held Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023 at the Grace/ CaVel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Roy Hilburn and the Rev. Ross Thompson. Burial will be held in the Person Memorial Cemetery.
