Joseph Scott Tatum, III age 67, of 1565 John Brewer Road, Roxboro, died Saturday morning, Jan. 7, 2023 at his home.
Mr. Tatum was born July 10, 1955 in Person County, son of the late Joseph Scott Tatum, Jr. and Gladys Louise Harris Tatum who survives and was husband of 50 years to Sharon Elaine Jacques Tatum who also survives. He was employed with Piedmont Community College as the welding instructor and was of the Baptist faith.Â
Scott was a competition rifleman and had won numerous competitions and awards. He enjoyed gunsmithing, racing his 1974 Vega dragster and also being a spectator, playing guitar and banjo.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two children, Joseph Scott Tatum, IV (Melinda Zimmerman), Shanna Tatum Tanksley and husband, Drew, two grandchildren, Jonah Scott Tatum, and Benjamin Reid Tanksley.Â
In addition to his father, Mr. Tatum is preceded in death by a sister, Lisa Louise Tatum.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023 at Antioch Baptist Church with Dr. M. David Chambers and the Rev. Drew Tanksley officiating. Interment followed in the Tillman Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bob Ackers, Johnny Harris, Russell Hutchins, Donnie Loftis, Scott Spencer, and Andy Walker. Honorary pallbearers were John Harris, David McFarland, and Jerry Whitfield. Â
