Lawrence Wayne Melton, Sr. age 87, of 7388 Dirgie Mine Road, Roxboro, died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 26, 2023 at Roxboro Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Melton was born Oct. 13, 1935 in Person County, son of the late Thomas Andrew and Mattie Lee Lowery Melton and was husband of 58 years to the late Rosalind Ann Wagner Melton. He was retired from ABB, was owner/operator of Virginia-Carolina Electronics, was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Lawrence enjoyed baseball, quail hunting, working on televisions, and socializing.
Surviving are four children, Vivian Melton Thompson, Lawrence Wayne “Larry” Melton, Jr. (Angie Mooney), Andrew Stevens Melton, Brian Wayne Melton, siblings, Hilda Jean Wrenn (John), Cecil Melton (Carolyn), grandchildren and great grandchildren, William Thompson (Jennifer), Doug Thompson (Jenna), Jennifer Thompson (Kyle), Ashley Litchfield, Heather Ellington (Andy), Taylor Potts (Michael), Bryce Thompson, Norah Thompson, Juniper Bailey, Cooper Ellington, Easton Ellington, Lucas Potts, and Carter Potts.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Melton is preceded in death by a daughter, Alesia Gail Melton.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023 at Olive Branch Baptist Church with Matthew Rich officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were, Adam Austin, Carl Boyd, Brian Bradsher, Austin Kendricks, Anthony Melton, Cory Melton, Randall Sanford, and Ralph Tuck II. Honorary pallbearers were David Dickerson, Tony Dickerson, Damien Hayeck, Tristan Hayeck, Franklin Lowery, C.H. Puryear, Huel Puryear, Greg Stevens, Jeff Stevens, Doug Thompson, William Thompson, and Winfred Wagner.
