When Rhys Fitzgerald woke up on the morning of the Roxboro Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot in January, he was less than thrilled for the competition. It took some convincing from his father, Hunt, but Rhys reluctantly took part.

Coming off a postseason run that culminated with a dogpile celebrating the first conference tourney title in 20 years and the first state playoff appearance in eight years, Person High School’s baseball team is hungry for more in 2023.

Local volleyball team AIM 15 Black won first place in the Gold Division at the Nike Savannah Showdown Feb. 18-20 in Savannah, GA. The team entered the Gold bracket with an undefeated set record across 8 games.

Person High School’s varsity boys’ basketball team found its groove down the stretch to earn a, 60-53, win over seventh-seed Western Alamance in the first round of the Central Conference tournament Monday night at home.

The Person High School boys’ basketball team locked up a second place finish in the Central Conference standings and an automatic bid to the state playoffs with a 74-56 rout of Williams Friday night in Roxboro. 

The Person JV boys’ basketball team battled back from a 15-point third quarter deficit to put pressure on a Williams team that hasn’t lost in two full seasons.
