The Roxboro Community School tennis team overpowered Eno River Academy, 8-1, in its home opener Wednesday at the Huck Sansbury.
Wednesday marked the first time the Bulldogs (2-3, 1-1) won their first conference game since 2018, when they squeaked by Voyager Academy in a 5-4 victory.
Emily Rogers and Allyshea Oliver, the top two singles seeds for RCS, made quick work of their opponents in 6-0, 6-1 triumphs. Three-seed Cora Bell downed Betts Roney in a 6-0, 6-3 clash.
Olivia Godard blanked Lily Kate Philipps, 6-0, 6-0, in a battle of five-seeds. RCS sixth seed Eliza Ess topped Quinn Parker in a 6-0, 6-2 match, while fourth-seed Aurora Bettendorf narrowly lost in a 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (13-11) battle.
Rogers and Bell teamed up for an 8-1 victory in the first doubles match. Oliver and Mariah Surrency won by the same score in the second doubles contest, while Bettendorf and Ess played to an 8-2 victory to round out the day.

Bulldogs blank River Mill
The Roxboro Community School women’s tennis team continued its winning ways on Thursday afternoon, blanking River Mill Academy in a 7-0, home victory at Huck Sansbury.
Bulldogs’ (3-3) top seed Emily Rogers, fourth seed Olivia Godard and fifth seed Eliza Ess all coasted to 6-0, 6-0 singles victory. RCS second-seed Allyshea Oliver took down Leah Murrad in a 6-2, 6-0 victory, while Aurora Bettendorf bounced back from her three-set tiebreaker on Wednesday with a convincing, 6-1, 6-0 win.
Caroline Cates and Michiyaj Jay, playing in the second doubles slot for the Bulldogs, grabbed an 8-2 victory over Addison Varinoski and Clarice Stegman. Rachel Green and Kirklyn Owen, RCS’ top doubles pairing, squeaked by Emma May and Mallory Varinoski in an 8-6 triumph.

RCS dominates Knights
The Bulldogs continued their hot streak on Tuesday afternoon, downing Vance Charter, 9-0, in Henderson for their third consecutive win.
Rogers, Oliver, Bettendorf, Godard and Olivia Ess all overpowered their opponents by 8-0 margins. Surrency and Kirklyn Owen easily won the third doubles match by an 8-0 score as well.
Eliza Ess took the sixth-seeded singles match, 8-1, Olivia Ess and Olivia Godard triumped, 8-2, in the first doubles contest, while Bettendorf and Eliza Ess won the second doubles match, 8-2.
RCS returns home on Monday, as it hosts Vance Charter at 4 p.m.
