The Roxboro Community School men’s soccer team’s second-half push came up a goal short, as it lost on the road, 2-1, Thursday at Vance Charter.
Jaxon Lawson provided the Bulldogs’ (2-8-1, 0-4) lone score in the second half. Blake Vernon added an assist.
RCS did not find the back on the net in the opening 40 minutes, while the host Knights (4-7-1, 1-3) took a 1-0 lead into the break. They only allowed Lawson’s second-half goal while adding one of their own, which ultimately decided the game.
Carver Pleasant made 10 saves in net for the visiting Bulldogs.
Vance Charter had 23 shots on goal with Josh Watkins and Collin Hughes scoring. Maddox Long added an assist.
Griffins best ‘Dogs with three extra-time goals
RCS, now in the midst of a seven-game slide, entered extra time in a 1-1 tie at Oxford Prep Tuesday night.
The host Griffins, however, found a little extra magic in an otherwise low-scoring contest.
Oxford Prep scored three extra-time goals to secure a 4-1 victory.
Both teams found the back of the net in the first half, but neither scored in the second.
Neither school had stats available for the Triangle North Conference matchup.
RCS (2-9-1, 0-5) is still searching for its first win since August, when it blanked Bartlett Yancey, 2-0, in Caswell County. The Bulldogs will get a good opportunity to do so tonight, when they travel to Excelsior Classical Academy for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
