Students at Roxboro Community School (RCS) have been eagerly waiting for some normalcy to be brought back into the school community. Since the pandemic, school just hasn’t felt the same. That is why the students of RCS have made it their top priority to include new and exciting events for the 2022-2023 school year. RCS Student Council has several upcoming events that we think will bring back some spirit into our bulldogs!

The council has been keeping busy this year and wants to show it off. In addition to Spirit Week, we will also host a family-friendly fundraiser for RCS clubs.
This Saturday, Dec. 3, will be Roxboro Community School’s first Winter Celebration. Cake walks, games, music, food and more will be served in the multipurpose room from 1-3 p.m. This will support not only Student Council but a variety of clubs such as Beta, Jazz Band, the softball team, and the cheerleading squad, which will be showing their school spirit. We hope for a good turnout.Â
School morale is what gives us the energy to put our best foot forward every day. That is why the student council is putting on our very first pep rally since COVID-19 began. Cheerleaders, band, basketball teams, and more will be brought into the gym on Tuesday, Dec. 6.Â
We are full of pride for our school, especially as our highly anticipated basketball season starts up. To show our support, this pep rally will hopefully pump all of our hard working players up and grab everybody’s attention that the Bulldogs are here. Our pep rally will be our first since 2016. We’re pulling out all the stops by even featuring the RCS band with their first pep band debut. Crowning a king and a queen, our Coming-of-Home will be spectacular. Don’t forget to look out for our red, black, and white colors at Jingle on Main tonight with our band and cheerleaders representing the Bulldogs.

Band Barks for the Arts
RCS is proud to showcase our award winning band in many different ways this 2022-2023 school year. Led by Valerie Smith, the RCS band has been rebuilding and growing since school came back after the pandemic. Middle and high school band, as well as the Jazz Band, have been working diligently to present many new pieces to show off and represent our school. From the classics to oldies, new music, and jazz – we have it all. In support of our other art programs, the RCS Art Club and Dance Team will be hosting a holiday coffeehouse and art show on Dec. 8 at 7 pm.Â
Starting off the Christmas spirit, the RCS band will be playing in both Jingle on Main and at our annual Christmas Parade. Some music you should look out for includes: Hippopotamus for Christmas, Christmas Melodies, Deck the Halls, Up on the HouseTop (New Orleans Style), and much more.
Supporting fellow clubs, Jazz Band will have a booth at the Student Council Celebration on Dec. 3, found in the multi-purpose room. Everyone is invited to come by and play our games to raise money for not only Jazz Band but other clubs at RCS.Â
There will also be a Christmas concert Dec. 5, at 6:30 pm in the multi-purpose room. This concert will feature our Jazz Band and middle school band to celebrate the Christmas season with music.Â
